Il 30 agosto 1972, John Lennon e Yoko Ono/Plastic Ono Band con Elephant's Memory e ospiti speciali, furono gli headliner di due storici concerti di beneficenza al Madison Square Garden di New York City. Questi spettacoli, tenuti davanti a un pubblico complessivo di 40.000 persone, hanno raccolto oltre 1,5 milioni di dollari (l’equivalente di 11,5 milioni attuali) per sostenere gli scolari con bisogni speciali.
Furono gli unici concerti completi di John Lennon dopo aver lasciato i Beatles.
"Quel concerto al Madison Square Garden è stato per me uno dei migliori momenti live dai tempi di The Cavern o anche di Amburgo", dichiarò John Lennon a NME nel 1972. "Era proprio lo stesso tipo di sensazione che provavo quando mi esibivo con i Beatles".
Prodotto da Sean Ono Lennon e dal suo team, vincitore di 5 GRAMMY® Awards, Power To The People (Super Deluxe Edition) è una raccolta esaustiva di 123 tracce, tra cui 90 brani inediti, che racconta l'era più politica di John e Yoko.
Il box spazia dall'inno contro la guerra del 1969 della Plastic Ono Band "Give Peace A Chance", a una nuova versione del loro album del 1972, Sometime In New York City, agli storici One To One Concerts di quell'anno al Madison Square Garden di New York, gli unici concerti completi di John dopo aver lasciato i Beatles ma anche gli ultimi concerti in cui John e Yoko si sono esibiti insieme.
Il box vanta anche una vasta gamma di demo inedite, home recordings, jam session, tagli dal vivo, mix unici e molto altro.

Power To The People è completato da diversi dischi di home recording mai pubblicati prima e jam session in studio: STUDIO JAM vede John & Yoko con gli Elephant's Memory, la migliore band di protesta di New York dell'epoca, più quattro ELEMENT MIXES degli arrangiamenti orchestrali per archi dell’album. HOME JAM, un disco completo di demo grezze e intime, cover e registrazioni casalinghe tratte dalla collezione privata di cassette di John. "Propr. J. Winston L., cantante, compositore e attore inglese. Fondatore e leader dei Beatles, non trascura il grande schermo. Oltre ai film dei Beatles (Tutti per uno, 1963; Aiuto!, 1965, ambedue di R. Lester) in cui interpreta sé stesso, ha un ruolo di attore vero e proprio in Come ho vinto la guerra (1967), ancora di Lester, dove è un bizzarro soldato. Insignito (insieme ai suoi soci) di un Oscar per la colonna sonora di Let It Be - Un giorno con i Beatles di M. Lindsay-Hogg (1970), dopo la separazione del gruppo (dovuta in parte anche alla seconda moglie, J. Ono), si stabilisce a New York, dove nel 1980 viene assassinato da un folle ammiratore. Nel 1988 esce Imagine: John Lennon di A. Solt, documentario sulla sua vita. Nel 2006 un altro documentario, U.S.A. contro John Lennon di D. Leaf...

Yoko Ono

Yoko Ono, nata a Tokyo nel 1933, si è trasferita a New York nel 1953, proseguendo gli studi di filosofia intrapresi in Giappone. Alla fine degli anni Cinquanta, è diventata parte delle fervide attività avanguardistiche della città. Nel 1960, ha aperto il suo loft in Chambers Street a una serie di rappresentazioni radicali e ha esposto i frutti di alcune sue prime opere concettuali. Nel 1961, ha organizzato una personale alla leggendaria AG Gallery di New York, dove ha esposto i suoi dipinti Instruction Paintings. Successivamente, ha tenuto un concerto in assolo alla Carnegie Recital Hall presentando rivoluzionarie opere che compendiavano movimento, suono e voce. Nel 1962, è tornata a Tokyo, dove ha reinterpretato la sua performance newyorkese al Sogetsu Art...
